Youth DACA Recipients lead “Death of Dreams” rally in Downtown Raleigh

On September 5th, the Trump administration rescinded the Deferred Action for Undocumented Arrivals program, or DACA, with intentions of differing it and the future of its recipients to Congress. As of December, youth across the country are beginning to lose their legal protections under DACA, as well as TPS (Temporary Protected Status), both of which allowed them to work, live and go to school in the U.S.

As a response to this decision and the inability of Congress to provide a solution, El Pueblo’s Youth Council is leading an action to demonstrate the “death” of their dreams and aspirations. Youth ages 13-21 will be dressed in funeral attire, lighting candles and setting off balloons in solidarity with the thousands of youth who have already lost their protections under DACA and TPS.

We are calling for our elected representatives to do the right thing by passing a clean DREAM Act so that our youth and young adults can continue to pursue their futures without fear of being separated from loved ones.
