FOUNDATIONS
For
2006, the following foundations are part of our El Pueblo family.
Please follow the links to a specific foundation to read more
about their great work beyond our programs. They truly are our
heroes!
John
Rex Endowment supports our Líderes de Salud (lay-health
advisors) Program which is in its third year of implementation.
El Pueblo works with three partner agencies (Open Door Clinic,
Millbrook Methodist Church, St. Bernadette Catholic Church) to
provide Latino families in Wake County with education on health
issues.
The
NC Triangle Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen/ Breast Cancer Foundation
funds Comunidad Sana,
which is in its third year, providing breast cancer awareness
and education in nine-counties (Chatham, Durham, Harnett, Johnson,
Orange, Wake) around the Triangle.
Hispanics
in Philanthropy
In the third year of a three year cycle grant, HIP supports El
Pueblo’s Advocacy initiative.
The capacity building grant from HIP allows us to hire a full-time
Policy Analyst to implement program goals and a part-time lobbyist
at the NC General Assembly to help identify legislation that concerns
the Latino community.
Questions about these grants should be addressed to development@elpueblo.org
.
GOVERNMENT
In
2006, El Pueblo has competitively bid for and won a number of
grants for county, state, and federal funding streams. We are
developing strong programs that touch the lives of hundreds of
Latino/Hispanic men, women, and children that call North Carolina
their new home.

Wake
County Smart Start is new to El Pueblo in 2005-6. Leámos
Juntos provides early childhood education and promotes family
literacy with women and children (0-5) throughout Wake County
Wake
County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) starting in
school year 2006-07, El Pueblo’s AGAPE Program will work
with three Wake County middle and two high schools to address
the issue of gang behaviors with our Latino youth and their families.
Governor’s
Highway Safety Program partnered with El Pueblo in 2004 to
create Nuestra Seguridad, an initiative to reduce the disproportionate
amount of highway safety fatalities and injuries among Hispanic
drivers in North Carolina

NC
Health and Wellness Trust Fund funds El Pueblo’s No
Fumo: Youth Leadership Project which works with NC Latino youth
groups across the state to raise awareness about the dangers of
tobacco use. The goals of the project are to prevent initiation
and promote cessation of tobacco use among youth, promote smoke-free
environments, and help eliminate health disparities among Latinos
related to tobacco use. --
National
Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA)
El Pueblo, Inc. in conjunction with a grant from NHTSA, is conducting
a study to reduce DWI among Latino drivers in North Carolina.
