Bring all your friends again and come pack the NCGA House gallery Wednesday 6/5! We’ll be gathering at noon (12pm) in the 1000 Court of the NCGA (directly to the right when you enter the NCGA on Jones Street) to provide folks talking points and instructions for meeting with legislators. Then we will gather in the House gallery for the session vote, which will probably be around 2pm (we will know the exact time after Tuesday’s session. Check back here for updates!)
The House will be voting to try and overturn Governor Cooper’s veto of the extreme anti-abortion bill S359–Come fight for reproductive rights and abortion access and to #StopS359!
The North Carolina General Assembly is again trying to restrict abortion access and use our bodies for political stunts. S359 is an extreme anti-abortion bill written by politicians, not doctors, that has no basis in medicine or science. The sole purpose of this bill is to intimidate patients and criminalize doctors and healthcare practitioners.
It’s yet another effort by the anti-abortion legislators to push extreme and inflammatory rhetoric in order to achieve their ultimate goal: banning abortion altogether. And they are doing this on the day when many of us our gathering to demand action to provide affordable, quality care for the 500K North Carolinians currently in the health care gap. Leadership should focus on that, and not false narratives about abortion. Leadership at the NCGA need to re-order its prioritizes.
